Tap Water Quality Report by ZIP Code
Your water utility must send you a yearly Consumer Confidence Report under US EPA rules. To find yours, enter your ZIP code below. The tool opens the EWG Tap Water Database for that ZIP and the EPA page that explains how to get your utility's report. It shows no invented numbers.
Enter 5 digits, then open the EWG database and search that ZIP.
Check one number from your report
How it works
The ZIP box builds a search link to the EWG Tap Water Database. EWG compiles utility test data from state records. Your utility's own Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is the primary source, and EPA requires community water systems to deliver one every year by July 1. The EPA link explains how to find yours.
The comparison box checks one number you copy from your report against the federal limit. The limits are EPA values: lead 15 ppb (action level), copper 1.3 mg/L (action level), arsenic 10 ppb, nitrate 10 mg/L as nitrogen, fluoride 4 mg/L, chlorine 4 mg/L (maximum residual disinfectant level), PFOA 4.0 ppt and PFOS 4.0 ppt (2024 PFAS rule). EPA updates rules and compliance dates, so confirm on the EPA page.

What if I use well water?
Private wells are not covered by EPA utility reports. Contact your state or county health department about testing a private well.
